While the AV Department was heavily involved with modern forms of media and its production, we still supported a number of older formats. Visual formats included overhead, slide, filmstrip and film projectors, as well as laser disc. Audio formats included reel to reel (2 track and 8 track), records, plus cassettes and CDs. Video formats included 8mm, VHS, S-VHS, laser disk, 3/4 inch and Beta. (We sought donates of used, working, Betacam equipment in return for a tax write-off credit.)
We kept examples of each medium for equipment testing, including a cabinet full of slides, from retired slide programs, sorted by topic. These slides provided a free source of visual information for use in multi-media student projects.
CDs (and other formats) were being collected for radio air play, use in video productions, the lending library, and for on-line review. We were looking for ska, rave, thrash, funk, punk, soul, jazz, alternative, folk, international, ethnic, inter-tribal, instrumental, radio theatre, PSAs, weird answering machine messages, experimental sound, etc. We were especially interested in music from any group that: had high school students in it, was do-it-yourself (DIY), or seriously independent. If you wanted to distribute your promotional sound tracks to a high school audience, in return for getting credit when we use your stuff, then you could have sent them to the address below. You still can if you wish. And... thanks !
